THAYERS NATURAL BLOG

Have you ever wondered what makes each of our toners and astringents different, past their smell? Our toners and astringents are made to benefit skin the old fashioned way. We are sharing our ingredients and scent benefits with all of you!

Suggested: What is Witch Hazel

Aloe Vera

is a great skincare ingredient because it contains anti-inflammatory properties that help skin manage inflammatory problems such as eczema, acne, or psoriasis. Aloe is also packed full of antioxidants that help the skin stay firm and moisturized. Aloe helps to decrease redness and inflammation while increasing collagen to generate the growth of new cells. It’s full of moisture that allows for the skin to be hydrated without clogging pores or becoming greasy. It is great for any skin type that wants to add moisture while soothing the skin.

Toners for all

Alcohol free toner is the way to go for almost any skin type, especially those with sensitive and combination skin. It gently calms the skin down, working with the other ingredients to target age spots, acne, oil, and sensitive areas. Alcohol free is more gentle on the skin and can be used anytime throughout the day. Besides our classic Rose Petal Facial Toner, we carry five other varieties to choose from! Read on to learn more about our different scents.

Rose

is full of natural oils that help restore the skin and make it as smooth as possible. The natural sugars in the petals help to soothe sensitive skin. Our rose toner hydrates the skin and has a natural astringent in the petals that tightens pores, leaving the moisture in, and free radicals out. It’s also full of Vitamin C, which is crucial for collagen production and strengthening skin cells. Together they enable scars to heal faster and for skin to look it’s very best.

Lavender

is an agent used to reduce redness and irritation. Lavender is full of anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that help manage acne and calm sensitive skin. Not only does lavender help calm the skin from the outside-in, the smell can physically calm you as well. It is extremely gentle and perfect to use on all skin types, especially those that are sensitive or acne prone.

Cucumber

is 95% water, so it is great to gently cool and refresh your skin. Full of cooling properties, cucumbers are able to reduce puffiness and rejuvenate the skin. Antioxidants in the cucumber allow skin to reduce water retention and diminish clogged pores. Vitamin B-5 in cucumbers also help to retain moisture in the skin, allowing for your skin to feel fresh all day. Cucumber is great for dry skin because it adds extra moisture.

Coconut Water

is incredibly hydrating and has a range of benefits for the skin. With its natural antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties that help skin fight off acne and reduce redness, it’s no wonder that Coconut Water is a favorite among skincare enthusiasts. Abundant in nutrients and minerals, it’s also effective in helping fight off wrinkles through its collagen producing Vitamin C and cytokinins. They are naturally occurring proteins within Coconut Water that are vital for cell growth and cell activation, protecting your skin from signs of aging.

Original

is a classic that features the earthy, natural scent of the Witch Hazel shrub. For those looking for a milder scent that also delivers the same moisturizing and replenishing properties of our other varieties, Original is a perfect pairing.

Unscented

is a favorite among those with skin sensitivities. The magic of Witch Hazel can still be found in our Unscented Facial Toner as it contains the same formula of our scented varieties, without the scent!

Astringents

Alcohol in astringents are best for oily skin. It is great for oily, acne-prone skin because it keeps skin balanced and strips away excess grease. The alcohol is more heavy duty and is best used for those that need a stronger product.

Lemon

Lemongrass extract is derived from the leaves of the Cymbopogan citratus plant and is known for its bright lemon scent and many skincare benefits. Similar to lemons, it is rich in vitamin C and B and contains brightening properties, keeping your skin glowing from within. It also contains antibacterial and antiseptic properties, helping to kill bacteria causing acne as well as effectively reducing overproduction of natural oils on the skin. Lemongrass extracts’ natural astringent qualities make it the ideal scent of choice for our astringent. Since lemongrass extract is a natural yet potent astringent and antiseptic, those who don’t have sensitive skin might benefit from using this astringent over our toners. Our astringent also contains extracts like orange peel, blackberry and nettle. These powerful antioxidant agents work at the cellular level to keep skin youthful and slow down damage from free radicals. These extracts add to the astringent properties already present in witch hazel and lemongrass extract and provide a multitude of benefits for oily or acne prone skin that needs a little extra TLC.

Our Witch Hazel Toners and Astringents can bring magical relief to your skin. Make sure to try all our scents to experience all the mystical benefits!

  • Thank you for the clarification! I’ve used the original astringent for over five years, but just bought the Rose toner to test out. I have combination skin, so this might work even better than the astringent.

what is the difference between the rose witch hazel and the coconut one?

    Reply
    • Our rose petal witch hazel contains rose water, which specifically helps to reduce acne and contains significant amounts of vitamin C. Our coconut water toner contains real coconut water, therefore making it super hydrating. Coconut water also contains antioxidants to help protect the skin from free radicals in our environment.

      Hi Sant,

Our Original Facial Toner differs slightly from our Rose and Cucumber Toner as it contains a natural scent of Witch Hazel in the formula. The Rose Facial Toner contains Rosewater which help tighten pores and soothe skin while the Cucumber Facial Toner contains essence of cucumber and has many cooling properties.

      Hi Jenny,

Everyone’s skin will react differently to our Facial Toners and they may treat acne differently depending on the person and what causes their acne. The natural astringent properties of Rose Petal Facial Toner are great for soothing blemishes, tightening pores and controlling oil production. However, our Lavender Facial Toner is antibacterial and can help manage sensitive skin and reduce irritation. Our ingredient deck for both products are the same, except for the Rose water and Lavender water.

Hi Roel, we haven’t added Vitamin C to this formula, however Rose Water does contain Vitamin C. The concentrations is relatively low, however we’d recommend consulting with a dermatologist on this issue to be sure.

      Hi Katherine,

First, we’d like to apologize for the poor reaction your skin had to Thayers Cucumber Facial Toner. We have a long-standing commitment to creating pure and effective products but we recognize everyone’s skin is unique. We do always recommend patch testing when trying new products, as we create a wide range of products that may not always be the most suitable option for every skin type. Our formulas for the Rose Petal and Cucumber Facial Toner contain the same ingredients, besides the Natural Fragrances and Rosewater vs Cucumber Essence, as listed on the ingredient deck! Let us know if we can be of further help, by contacting info@thayers.com or giving us a call at 1-888-THAYER-1 (1-888-842-9371).
