Makeup Brush Cleaner: Natural Complex

Ok—let’s be honest. When was the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? It should be an essential part of your beauty routine. Here’s why: makeup, oil, dirt and even bacteria can get trapped in the bristles of the brush, and unless you wash them, you’re rubbing it all back into your skin. This can cause breakouts and irritation at the very least.

Not only are clean brushes better for your skin, but they also make applying your makeup a lot smoother. Our DIY makeup brush cleaner is super easy and quick to make, and you probably already have most of the ingredients at home!

What You’ll Need

  • ½ cup of distilled water
  • ½ cup of Thayers Unscented (or your favorite Thayers scent) Facial Toner
  • 2 tsp of castile soap (we like to use Dr. Bronner’s unscented baby version)
  • 1 tsp argan oil (olive oil can work too)
  • Mason Jar

Pour all of the ingredients (in the order listed) into a mason jar.

To use: Shake well each time before using. Pour a small amount in a cup and swish around several times to work the cleaner through the bristles. Next, swipe your brush back and forth several times on your hand to get the excess makeup out. Then, rinse the brush thoroughly under cool water. Towel dry.

Cleaning your brushes once a week is absolutely worth it. Your skin and brushes will thank you!
